We hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday 21^st April at the Ray Dolby Centre, home of the New Cavendish Laboratory , in Cambridge for an exclusive group visit which includes a talk by Dr Harry Cliff on the history of the Cavendish followed by a tour of the facility hosted by Dr David Ward (Head of Characterisation at the National Facility CORDE). This visit may also be of interest to any of your relatives or friends who may wish to study at the Cavendish at either undergraduate or post-graduate level. They would be very welcome to join us.

For over 150 years, the Cavendish Laboratory has been at the forefront of scientific discovery. The electron, the neutron, the structure of DNA, pulsars to name but a few! The Cavendish has been the home of 36 Nobel prize winners. In 2025, the Ray Dolby Centre was opened. This is a very impressive building which cost £303m providing teaching and research facilities which are unequalled in Europe.

The programme for the visit;

1.00pm: Meet for lunch in the Cavendish Café which is on the 3^rd Floor of the Ray Dolby Centre, JJ Thomson Ave, Cambridge West Innovation District CB3 0US. Tables will be reserved for us. The Café serves hot main meals, sandwiches, toasties, cakes and drinks which can be purchased from the counter. There are extensive panoramic views of the city from the Café.

2.00pm: Talk by Dr Harry Cliff on the history of the Cavendish in the Cluster Room .

3.00pm: Tour of the Ray Dolby Centre in 3 or 4 groups hosted by Dr David Ward and team.

Following the tour, you are very welcome to visit the Cavendish Museum which is in the Ray Dolby Centre. The museum displays the most significant collection of scientific apparatus relating to physics anywhere in the world.

The cost is £14 per person.
