Parham Airfield Museum near Framlingham
An exclusive group visit to Parham Airfield Museum near Framlingham. The site comprises both the USAF 390th Bomb Group Memorial Air Museum together with the Museum of the British Resistance Organisation. The airfield was used by the USAF from 1943 to 1945 for B-17 (Flying Fortress) bombers. Of the 3500 airmen who served at Parham, 743 were killed or missing in action and 740 became Prisoners of War. The Chair of the Museum Trustees, Peter Senior will give us a talk covering the USAF story at Parham and the history of the British Resistance Organisation – the ‘Secret Army’. Had Britain been invaded these Auxiliaries would have fought a ruthless guerrilla war.
After a buffet lunch there will be an opportunity to tour the extensive exhibitions which house a unique collection of engines, equipment and wartime memorabilia. You will also be able to visit the original airfield Control Tower and a reconstruction of the underground Stratford St Andrew Operational Base used by the local British Resistance Organisation. Please note that access to the Control Tower is by steep steps which may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
