Thursday 21 November: Bury St Edmunds Cathedral for a talk by The Rt Revd Martin Seeley, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. Martin was appointed Bishop in 2015 and has been a Lord Spiritual member of the House of Lords since March 2022. Martin is due to retire next year and we are very grateful that he has been able to reserve time in what will be a very busy period for him over the next few months.

Thursday 26 September: Visit to The Ark and Isleham Priory Church. Visit to Isleham near Ely for a guided tour of The Ark which is one of the largest self-build projects in the country and believed to be the biggest structure in Europe made in modern times from green oak. After a two course lunch at Worlington Hall, we will visit the Priory Church  in Isleham which was founded in c.1100. This small Norman chapel is the best example in the country of a small Benedictine priory church that has remained substantially unaltered.

Thursday 20 June: Visit to the Elveden Estate, near ThetfordElveden is a 22,500 acre country estate, of which over 10,000 acres is farmland.  It is the largest ring-fenced arable farm in lowland Britain. The current owner is the 4th Earl of Iveagh. The estate is passionate about environmentally-responsible farming and ensures biodiversity thrives alongside the latest farming practices. After an introductory talk by retired farm manager Ian Robertson about the estate there will be a coach tour on private roads around the estate. After a buffet lunch in the Village Hall there will be a visit to the magnificent Elveden Church which is a national treasure.

Saturday 27 April: Dr Toby Capwell at The Castle Community Rooms, Framlingham.

‘Armed in Alabaster: Monumental Effigies and the Study of Late Medieval Armour’

 

and after a buffet lunch a short walk to Framlingham Church where Toby will talk about the magnificent tombs and the Flodden helmet.
