The Hardwick Estate - Dr Alison Lennox
We hope you will be able to join us on Wednesday 6th August for a talk in the Southgate Community Centre, Bury St Edmunds. We are delighted that our fellow SCS member, Dr Alison Lennox, has agreed to give a talk on the history of The Hardwick Estate. After a buffet lunch there will be a guided walk around Hardwick Heath ending up at Home Farm House, the home of Alison and Malcolm Lennox, for afternoon tea in their magnificent garden. Home Farm House was formerly part of the Hardwick Estate.
Hardwick House was built on what were formerly the medieval grazing lands of St Edmundsbury Abbey. The manor house, originally built by Sir Robert Drury (Speaker of the House of Commons) was sold to Sir Thomas Cullum in 1656 and remained in the Cullum family until the 1920s.
The programme for the visit is;
10.00am: Meet at Southgate Community Centre, Caie Walk IP33 2QA for tea/coffee. There is free car parking adjacent to the Centre and some additional parking will be available at Home Farm House. In addition, the Hardwick Heath car park (IP33 2QZ) is a short walk on a path across the heath to the Community Centre.
10.30am: Talk by Dr Alison Lennox on the history of the Hardwick Estate.
Noon: Buffet lunch in the Community Centre
1.30pm: Guided walk around Hardwick Heath finishing at Home Farm House for afternoon tea in the garden.
The cost is £20 per person.
